On Lofty love

        - Aswani R Jeevan

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

The loft

Inside,
Near the footboard
My books, bemused…
In the hanger
His military uniform;
With countable medals…
On the three-legged table
My pen… his gun…
On the wooden plank
My scarf… his hat…
In the cushioned chair
Our belts, boldly entangled.

Out,
At the doorstep
Our black-eyed puppy…
A broken sandal, unseen and
A new pair of branded boots
A desiccated water-well with
Four bloomed cactus plants
On the road,
A bus that misses the time
Three or four chatty women
A box store… One in debt
And,
The high noon beams of summer

Inside,
Pain
Sweat
Bitter

Laughter
Out,
Pain
Sweat
Bitter
Laughter

OUTSIDE IN
INSIDE OUT

Done!
We were conjugating!

(I am reciting the uniform
He is putting on the books
Now, you go back Mr Peeper!
Take the broken sandal back
If it has your name gravely engraved)
